Did I mention that I like to quilt? I should clarify that statement and say that I like to piece quilt tops. I tend to stack the tops up when I'm done with them and just let them sit there. Recently a friend of mine that has a longarm quilting machine was going out of town and graciously offered to let me quilt my tops while she was gone. So I lined up the tops, started matching up backings with them and made a game plan. She was going to be gone for about 10 days, but I needed to work two of those days so I had a 8 day window to quilt in. I started by quilting 4 tops the first day, going on to 5 the next. All in all, I quilted 31 tops over a 7 day period. It was fun (most of the time) and a great learning experience. My motto for the week was "they don't have to be pretty, they just need to be done". I also found myself muttering "just because the quilt in the book (pattern, etc.) was huge doesn't mean that you have to make it that big in the future". About 5 of the quilts were wall hanging size, and quite a few were massive things. By the end of the 7 days I was dragging, but now I only have two tops that are not quilted. These are tops that I actually care about how they turn out and will have some of my quilting friends with more experience finish for me. But now I have a lot of nights of binding ahead of me.
I had to laugh when my husband made the declaration "you really need to just make spectacular quilts from now on". You can translate this to "just make quilts that will take forever for you to piece so that you don't have so many unquilted tops in the future".
